THE ART OF FINDING THINGS
Put frequently used things near the place you use them. Record a location you can identify without opening every box: “Hallway / tall cupboard / second shelf”.
Give boxes short, visible names. “Travel kit” is easier to maintain than a long list printed on the lid. Keep the detailed contents here and print a room inventory if useful.
An index is only useful while it matches reality. Update a record as you put the item away. Avoid storing passwords, access codes or sensitive document contents in your atlas.
